Looking forward to the next 2.0 game on Tuesday,
I have my byzzies, slightly re-jigged to represent a more cataphract based set up and good to go for another 1500 point bash. I am hoping you are going to be able to make it over with your evil byzantines - although understand this may not be possible.

General Domesticos
General. Hand weapon and bow, kontarion, shield, heavy armour, mounted, barding, warhorse
Tagmata Army Standard Bearer
Standard Bearer. Hand weapon and bow, kontarion, shield, heavy armour, mounted, barding, warhorse
3 units of Heavy Kavallaroi 9 figures each
Hand weapon, kontarion, shield, heavy armour, drilled, leader, musician, standard. Combined formation rear rank have hand weapon, bow, buckler and heavy armour and are drilled. Superior Byzantine Cavalry.
Tagmata Kataphraktoi 10 figs
Heavy armour, shield, heavy mace, barding, drilled, leader, musician, standard. Combined formation, rear rank (33%) have hand weapon, bow, buckler, heavy armour, half barding and are drilled. Superior Byzantine Cavalry. Blunt nosed wedge.
Themata 28 figs
Hand weapon, thrusting spear, large shield, light armour, (@13 pts each) leader, standard, musician. Combined formation includes 50% archers hand weapon, buckler, bow @ 8pts each) drilled. Shieldwall.

The set up looks more attuned to the way I want to play (with lots of horses!) 8-) and the Tagmata Kataphraktoi look like a force to contend with once I have had a bit of practice - especially with the free wheeling etc associated with a blunt wedge.

See you Tuesday if you can make it.
Cheers
Dax

Hi JP,
Flee - in the face of Macedonian impertinence - never! The sons of Rome return with their shields or upon them!
How about Thursday 28th for a 3000 pointer?
Cheers
Dax

I'll be there. Looks a lot for 1600pts or are we using 2000pts :?:

Hi Jack,
glad you are able to make it over tomorrow. looking forward to a wee game!
I made the list up to reflect the Evesham event which is 1500points with a free general - so more like 1700.

I'll bring the sheet over to the club.
Cheers
Dax

Hi JP,
I have had a scout through the basic lists over the past couple of days and to be quite honest reckon the Romans will get it handed to them in any kind of head on confrontation with that mass of pikes :o  - must be a bugger never having the initiative against large pike blocks :? - especially with a mass of skirmish protection and very strong screening cavalry. 8-)
Can't see the lists giving much in the way of opposing cavalry for the son's of Rome, :x but will give it a bash, expect a good match and notch up a bit more WAB experience! :)
Good to go next Thursday (27th)! ;) Cheers

Dax,

you could always substitute your Imperials as Republicans- a bit of a stretch but i've seen worse! :)

Repo-Romans will have a much better survival rate against those pike blocks and of course, they are more or less in period- Alexanders successors had the odd beef with the Repo-Romans.

Just a suggestion mate :) .

Darrell.

Cheers Darrell, but just dont have the figures, the vast majority of mine are legionarries and I'd lose the plot with formations very quickly, if I couldn't see the difference between Hastati, Principes and Triarii! :? even if JP didn't mind the proxying. Will table what I have and see how I get on. Appreciate the tips though, as Tuesdays game was a master class on the differences between WAB 2 and 1.5. Using my standard tactics of a strong cavalry flank attack and try to hold the centre, which served me well in WAB previously my byzzies got well trounced, as some of the -shall we say - interesting features of WAB 2 came into play and neither of my flanks performed effectively. Well played Jack.
Looking forward to another game next week - JP's Greek types looked pretty impressive on Thursday.
Cheers
Dax

Dax,

Drilles is still your friend with the Romans. you can't do the silly triple march thing then next turn up frontage and charge anymore but it is still a very usefull ability for a unit as all other troops (with the exception of Cavalry- as I have always advocated :) ) are much less manoeuvreable than before.

A couple of Ballista would knock a few holes in those phallangites.

Veteran Legionaries should still win a staright up fight with a phallanx if given heavy armour. Ingnore the 4+ save = 3" move for light armour and large shield, Mrtin has already pointed out that this is a misprint/error.

Auxiliaries are now Open Order and can hold a flank provided the enemy isn't too hard.

Darrell.
