Dear all, Seeing as we are all trying to get some practice in for the championships, is anyone interested in having a boot camp session in a fortnight, with the armies we are all using for the competition, but entirely non-competitive, with coaching allowed from some of the more experienced players to share tactics etc and also to go through the full competition scenario? It could include camps/baggage, fixed terrain and deployment sketches so that it reflects what things will be like at Whitburn? Just a thought Manana Dax
happy to have a go at that with the old Mori chaps
I'd perhaps go easy on the 'coaching', maybe only if asked for?
Cheers,
John.
I haven't fully decided on an army for the bash (and might not be playing in any instance) so I'll just bring something over to match any period that has a spare space! (Haven't forgotten a couple of Samurai for next week mon amis) On the coaching side it can get a bit difficult getting the balance right when we are all learning a fairly new set of rules at different paces, agree it has to be completely optional, and we should also go for the standard hands up principle for referees decisions. For instance, I'd be happy to play an open game with someone, letting them know what I was up to as the game progressed, and perhaps pointing out a few helpful tips along the way - but not everybody's cup of tea. Just don't want us to get our arses completely kicked in September! Manana Dax
I'm defo up for some tactical chat and explanation of what we are going to be doing chez Whitburn in September. i'm going to go with the Lancastrians Wars of the Roses -- so lines of stakes and big warband devouring pits would be helpful......

Dax,
I'd be happy to have a game like that, maybe after Claymore? As for getting our arses kicked, personally I couldn't give a [insert expletive of choice ], I'm there to support you, the Club, and hopefully get this inaugural event off and running. I've no pretentions of doing anything other than poorly
Cheers,
John.

Henry Tudor for king!

Aah yes - beware the warbands of York! Vicious buggers, smell a bit too, and lethal with their incendiary whippets, ranged black pudding attack and likely to claim victory after boring their opponents to death with tales of how when they were a lad, times was tough Mind you, how would they fare against the George Formby-esque forces supporting large king Henry, what with those ukelele ensembles and the massed cavalry singing when I'm cleaning windows - too tough to call....... Manana Dax
I'm up for the meetings either side of Claymore - So practise using big toys would be handy. I'll happily use Romans and see if I can beat the Gaullic Juggernaut

I think you'll find that post Claymore sounds like a good idea - like your good self the highest priority I have is actually enjoying meself! I have this haunting fear that competition matches will shrivel my soul and turn me into some nit picking gamey twat who starts every sentance with the phrase "I think you'll find....." it may already be too late Saw the boot camp idea on the Impetus site, and seemed like a pretty good idea, seeing as some of us have been playing it for ages now - (entirely optional on any support/coaching etc of course). I am neither up nor down myself on winning, but really looking forward to a good few competitive games and also want this to be a good event for the club - not just a one off. Cheers mon amis, see you all Thursday. Dax

Scott Duncan
Hi Scott, there is an eight way game going on next week, mainly 15th century though, WOTR and Samurai with possibly some Sassanid/Rus action gpoing on elsewhere. I can bring my Dacians along if you are bringing Romans - but sure that there will be a generals hat available for you on Thursday. Cheers Dax
